Army Cadet with Saber

From the 2009 Boston University Tri-Service ROTC Pass in Review. A BU Senior Army ROTC cadet in Class A uniform marching with a saber.

Update: November 9, 2009.  This photograph, with the copyright watermark cropped off, has been appearing on an ad on Facebook without my knowledge or consent.  If you see it, please send me a screenshot and report that ad as using copyrighted material without the owner’s consent.

Update: November 16, 2009. I heard from Facebook, and they claim to have pulled the ad with my photograph, but won’t give me any data on the company that was using it without my consent.  I’m glad that the ad was pulled but, Facebook could have handled this better.

Thanks!

Selective Colorization using GIMP

Photoshop can be a tad expensive, so a lot of photographers turn to GIMP, an open source digital image editor with many of the same features.

A common trick of digital editing is Selective Colorization.  That is where you have a single color in an otherwise black and white photo.  Here is a straightforward tutorial on how to do that in GIMP

Here is an example.  Note the red on the belt.

Kings Brass playing at Yosemite

Kings Brass, originally uploaded by Eclipse Pics (∆ncient).

Serendipity is a wonderful thing. I was taking the Valley tour and when we pulled into Vista point, there was a Brass Band playing. The band was Kings Brass, which was traveling between gigs through Yosemite Valley. They decided that was a wonderful place to jam.

I have to say they were right.
